About
Camelia Ryane
Camelia Ryane is a multidisciplinary artist who primarily identifies herself in painting. Born in Casablanca in 1997, her work is influenced by strong social expectations rooted in her childhood, which she constantly works through in her creation through catharsis and transformation.
Derived from an obligation to herself to make sense of her identity, her work transcends from her inner self to other women. She focuses on her experiences of her inner child, her relationship with the female body, and the status of immigration, becoming a means of communication for others to express their experiences through her painting. Thus, she returns to herself and to sisterhood.
While Camelia reprocesses her memory through her work, she paints and creates her own reality in a society where shame and taboo outweigh freedom, privacy, and women's rights as individuals. Her process allows her to establish self-healing, strength, and other tools that were not taught, creating a secure foundation through active creation and healing of the ancestral beliefs of a North African society.
